PONDA: People have appreciated the traffic police road safety awareness drive, but more importantly they have demanded improvement of road conditions. ‘How is possible to observe Road Safety Week without good roads?’ they asked.
Lack of good roads has upset many vehicle users in Ponda as many of the roads in the taluka are with potholes and turned into accident prone zones. Some road have been dug for power and sewerage work and in a dangerous state.

The Directorate of Transport and Traffic Police started the awareness on Road Safety Week (between Oct 6 to 13) in schools and colleges, with lectures and seminars urging students to follow traffic rules, not to allow minors to drive, follow traffic rules, avoid overspending but there is no word on potholes and the pathetic condition of roads which is most essential for safe driving.
Locals asked how wearing helmets, seat belt will benefit vehicle users without good roads? Due to potholes ridden roads or bad and unlevelled road the riders often stray onto the wrong lane to avoid damaged road and this leads to accidents. Without good roads no safety is possible.
So far many people have been injured, including pregnant women after vehicles sliding into pothole ridden roads.
