MARGAO: All Panchayats are directed to convene a special gram sabha on April 24 to observe Panchayat Day and have also been asked to conduct various programmes under the Gram Swarag Abhiyan from April 14 to May 5.
The panchayat has been asked to explain the importance of panchayat and inform the villagers about the activities undertaken by the Panchayat and also the activities planned and problems identified by the Village Development Committee while forming the Gram Panchayat Development Plan.
Besides, they are also supposed to distribute the prizes at the various competitions that may have been conducted as part of the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and also get an expert to speak on malnutrition, sanitation or schemes for women.
Many panchayats in Salcete could not organize the competitions recommended to be conducted for children as the schools are currently on vacation.
