SANGUEM: In an unusual situation, residents visiting the Inspectorate of Survey and Land Records Quepem for survey plans have been left disappointed, as no staffer is willing to handle cash transactions and cash receipts in the office.
Some residents claimed that they had travelled from as far as Netravali, a distance of over 40 kms but had to return home disappointed as officials were in no mood to hear their problems.
When contacted, Inspector for Survey and Land Records P Bandodkar expressed helplessness in the matter, stating that no other officer was willing to take additional charge of handling cash as they are overburdened with their own duties.
Sources informed that for the last several months, the duties of issuing cash receipts and handling cash transactions were handled by field surveyors in addition to their duties. However the field officers have resolved not to carry on the additional duties any more, thereby putting the Inspector for Survey and Land Records in a fix.
Enquiries revealed that a couple of months after Bandodkar took charge of the Quepem office, the responsibilities to handle cash transactions and issue cash receipts were allocated to a field surveyor, after Bandodkar had allegedly issued a memo to the designated cash handling clerk for disciplinary action. However while Bandodkar claims the memo issued to the said clerk has been withdrawn, the clerk has allegedly not taken charge of his duties, thereby putting the public to great inconvenience.
