Rahul discusses party matters with State leaders during his overnight visit to Goa

PANJIM: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met State leaders and party MLAs and discussed the prevailing political situation in the State. All India Congress Committee (AICC) incharge for Goa and Member of Parliament R Manickam Tagore was also present. 

Gandhi who was on a private visit to the State on Wednesday night met Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar and three legislators at a starred hotel at Bambolim. 

According to Patkar, it was Gandhi’s private visit to the State but they discussed various issues concerning the State. 

“Gandhi spoke about the local issue and performance of the party MLAs and requested us to work on local issues. We also discussed organisational matters and political strategies to be adopted for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.” 

Patkar said that during the meeting, they requested Gandhi to declare the Lok Sabha candidates before the poll dates are announced so that they can start campaigning. On Thursday morning, Gandhi visited a family at Mapusa from where he also carried with him two puppies to Delhi. He left from Mopa Airport at around 10 am as he had scheduled meeting with Congress leaders from Karnataka, informed Patkar.  

Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said that Gandhi has told them to be with the people of Goa and be their voice. 

“Goa is close to Gandhi’s heart and he is aware of rising unemployment and corruption in the State. Though it was a private visit, we discussed party matters and political strategy for upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
