MARGAO: The Raia gram sabha on Sunday passed a surplus budget of Rs 69.50 lakh for the current financial year 2013-14.

MARGAO: The Raia gram sabha on Sunday passed a surplus budget of Rs 69.50 lakh for the current financial year 2013-14.
While the revenue was pegged at Rs 1.86 crore, the expenditure was shown as Rs 1.16 crore. Minutes of the last gram sabha held on February 3 were also approved at the meeting.
The gram sabha also passed a resolution to submit a proposal to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs for development works. It was decided to take up tarring of internal roads with the help of the local MLA and to submit a proposal for development of ST area in Raia at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh under Tribal Welfare Ministry.
Under NRI scheme “Moje Goem” the gram sabha resolved to pave the area in front of panchayat building at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh.
Sarpanch Romaldo F Gonsalves expressed his unhappiness over the behaviour of Salcete Block Development Officer (BDO) accusing him of having refused to give sanction for bush cutting and drains cleaning last year putting villagers to inconvenience. The sarpanch informed that an amount of Rs 5 lakh has been earmarked for drain cleaning and bush cutting. In reply to a query from gram sabha members, the sarpanch informed that file has been moved for sanction of BDO adding that in case the sanction is delayed beyond April 15 the panchayat body would be forced to take it decision on the matter.
Gonsalves also gave details of various development works taken by the panchayat in village during last financial year.
