MARGAO: Esmeralda Fernandes e Gomes on Wednesday resigned from the post of Raia sarpanch.
“I have resigned on my own free will without any pressure or demand from anybody,” she said.

Following the panchayat elections, Zelia Gonsalves was elected sarpanch. However, she was voted out of office in a no-confidence motion after six months and Esmeralda was elected the new sarpanch.
It is expected that Minguelina D’Souza will be elected the new sarpanch.
