MARGAO: The gram sabha of the Raia village panchayat called for the scrapping of various recent amendments to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act and also demanded for the setting up of a new regional plan in consultation with the public.

With this Raia, becomes the latest gram sabha to pass such a resolution.
The gram sabha members also discussed and criticised the handling of the Sonsodo waste management facility in view of the recent burning of garbage issue at the site, which Sarpanch Mario D’Souza pointed out, affects the neighbhouring wards of Raia.
On the issue of the proposed police station coming up at Sonsodo, the sarpanch said they had not received anything yet in writing but if the locals opposing the project, submit a complaint, the panchayat would conduct a site inspection.
He added that similar site inspections, based on complaints filed in advance over any alleged hill cutting activity, will be held too.
The Sarpanch also called on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the PWD portofilio to repair the Manora-Raia road which is a bad condition.
He also questioned the delay on the South District Administration and PWD in putting speed breakers on the Arlem highway at critical points. The issue of streetlight requirements was also discussed.
