The brutal assault on Rama Kankonkar has triggered a wave of political outrage across Goa, with opposition leaders slamming the BJP-led government for lawlessness and failure to ensure public safety.
Goa Forward Party Chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai strongly criticized the ruling dispensation, accusing the “double engine sarkar” of creating “Jungle Raj” in the state. “They preach Ram Rajya while Rama is being beaten. NSA must be invoked against those involved,” Sardesai said.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao joined the chorus, stressing that the incident was not about politics but about safety. “We are here as Goans, not politicians. A gang is operating in North Goa — the mastermind must be investigated. This government must go, all should go home. No one is safe in Goa,” Alemao declared.
AAP Goa President Amit Palekar revealed that he had earlier advised Rama Kankonkar to avoid going out in the evenings and nights due to life threats. “Shockingly, he was attacked in broad daylight,” Palekar said, calling the incident a glaring failure of law enforcement.
The attack has intensified demands for accountability, with citizens and political parties alike urging swift and strong action against the perpetrators.
