Rane warns superintendents of Hospicio, Asilo against referring patients to GMC

PORVORIM:Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday warned of action against the medical superintendents (MS) who unnecessarily refer cases to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, which is over burdened with the patients. 

Rane said that several patients of vector-borne diseases from Hospicio and Asilo are referred to GMC, despite having best treatment available in those district hospitals. “The GMC is burdened. It currently caters to more 30-35 per cent patients then its bed capacity,” he said. 

“Unless there are treatment emergencies, no patients should be referred from Hospicio and Asilo to GMC. I will initiate action against concerned MS,” he said. 

The Minister was responding to the calling attention motion moved by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Cruz Silva with regards to spread of water borne disease at Sao Jose de Areal because of large amount of scrap material lying illegally in the open space and due to non-desilting of gutters at Margao Industrial Estate. 

Rane said that the panchayat is directed to take actionand to clean the scrap material.and take strict action wherever necessary.
