PANJIM: Congress Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, has demanded the resignation of FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai alleging that she is playing with the lives of the people.
Addressing a press conference, Lourenco who is the party spokesperson said, “FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai who has been a total failure to check the adulteration of food specially fish, must resign immediately.”
He also flayed the changing stance of the Manohar Parrikar government saying the carcinogenic formalin laced fish import has not only made people worry about consuming fish but also made the staple diet of Goa very expensive.
“From the day this formalin scandal was exposed at Margao wholesale market by the FDA team this government has been wayward on it stand. Now the government is coming to terms with the reality that most people of Goa are deserting fish as the staple diet due to the threat.”
He said that people would never forget statements of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai that tested fish had formalin within permissible limit.
