VASCO: Goa Customs seized gold worth over Rs 14 lakh (approx) from Goa International Airport, on Thursday.
The team headed by Deepak Gawai, under the supervision of T R Gajalakshmi, additional commissioner of customs, intercepted an international passenger based on profiling.
The international passenger arrived by Oman Air flight. The search of the handbag of the passenger resulted in recovery of 6 transparent plastic pouches containing brown colour substance in powder form. The team on checking further found that it was gold powder totally weighing 450 grams.
This gold was intended to be smuggled by the passenger by evading customs duty. The value of the gold would be determined after extraction process but the going by market value the seized gold was worth around Rs 14 lakh. The said gold was seized under the Customs Act 1962.
