PANJIM: After successfully implementing the renewable energy coverage to 150 households, the State Cabinet on Friday, accorded its approval for extending the benefit of ‘Rural Village Electrification Scheme’ to another 150 houses located in villages.
As per the cabinet note, the scheme aims to bring electricity, through renewable energy sources, to un-electrified remote villages, wards, where the gird connectivity is either not feasible or not cost-effective.
The scheme was introduced in June 2020.
Speaking to media persons, Minister for Power Nilesh Cabral said that government had identified 300 houses in remote areas, where the grid connectivity was not reaching. “We decided to electrify these houses through renewable energy. In the first phase, the program was implemented for 150 houses,” he said.
“Today, the cabinet approved to extend the benefit to another 150 houses,” Cabral added.
Under the scheme, 100 per cent financial assistance will be given to the household, with upper limit of Rs 90,000 per household for 500 Wp solar system. The cost includes transportation, installation and maintenance.
The households will be charged monthly electricity consumption charges as fixed by the department.
