PANJIM: A progress report, submitted by the tourism department on the M V River Princess scrap removal issue, has disclosed that the sub-committee constituted to evaluate the suitability of a landing site to unload the scrap material of remaining portions of the ship wreck has submitted its inspection report which has been placed before the State level Monitoring Committee overseeing the removal of the remaining debris of the vessel.
This exercise was conducted in the wake of a possible resumption of work for removal of the remaining ship wreck lying below the sea bed off the Candolim- Sinquerim coast. The tourism department has disclosed that the ship breaking agency has not yet furnished the bank guarantee and a reminder has been sent to the contractor to renew the performance bank guarantee. It further discloses that a letter was received from the contractor informing that their bank would issue the bank guarantee shortly after which the full schedule and list of equipments to be mobilized would be submitted.
A detailed note has been submitted to the Principal Secretary (Tourism) and a meeting of the Monitoring Committee would be convened to deliberate on these issues.
