CURCHOREM/PONDA: Hundreds of revellers thronged Curchorem to catch a glimpse of the Carnival floats parade which commenced near Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services Station and culminated at Kadamba bus stand after wending its way through the newly built one way road via Ambedkar circle on Monday evening.
The floats parade, which was organised by Centro Social Anjo Custodio (CSAC) in association with Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC), was flagged off by CCMC Councillor Piedade Diniz in the presence of Power Minister and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, CCMC Chairperson Felix Fernandes, councillors, panch members and CSAC President Christopher Bannet.
The role of King Momo and Queen was played by Savio Pereira and Natasha Pereira respectively and around 32 professional floats besides local floats participated in the parade. “Songitkar” by Quepem group was the centre of attraction among other floats in the traditional category. “Goenche Kumar”, by Niz Goenkar from Curtorim, showcasing various types of traditional Goan utensils was presented at the parade and the other floats depicting Goan tradition and conveying various public interest messages were participated in the traditional, club/institution, family, clown/joker and fun/junk car rally categories.
Later in the evening, a Konkani film “Nachom-ia Kumpasar” was screened, at KTC bus stand.
Meanwhile at Ponda, thousands of people of all age group including children, youths and Citizens flocked to and enjoyed the two hours of Carnival float parade on Monday evening at Ponda.
Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, BJP President Vinay Tendulkar, PMC Chairperson Pradeep Naik , Councillors released the balloons in the sky to kick start the Carnival Float Parade with King Momo giving message to enjoy the festival followed by various floats, dance troops, etc, that were appreciated by people.
The tableau with messages on make Goa plastic free, Formalin free fish, say no to drugs, Save Goa farming, coconut, frog to preserve environment, etc, caught the attention of the revellers.
Many floats wound their way along the route from Hotel Menino, Dada Vaidya Chowk, Ponda Police Station, SBI and later culminated at Aguiar Ground. In family category there were 26 floats, besides 19 others including Traditional, Club and Institution, and Joker.
Besides floats there was lot of entertainment by cultural troupes showing dance skills and artistes wearing different masks.
