Minister Rohan Khaunte has sought a report from North Goa Collector Nila
Mohanan, in connection with the arrest of Additional Collector (North-I) Sabaji
Shetye on charges of graft.
“I have asked for a report from the North Collector, which I
will study, after which any action will be decided,” Khaunte told Herald when
asked if the Revenue Department was contemplating disciplinary action against
Shetye. Sources in the department revealed that the officer’s suspension will
follow along with an inquiry.

The incident comes at the time when the department is set to
implement the Time Bound Delivery Services Act wherein the minister has
announced zero tolerance to corruption and no nonsense policy.
“We have adopted zero tolerance to corruption and no
nonsense policy, for which every office will now have CCTV cameras which will
monitored from the office of the District Collectors. This will reduce serious
allegations of corruption and lethargy in completing the work,” Khaunte had
said, while announcing plans for the first department to become the first to
adopt the system.
After the arrest of the Additional Collector, the need for
these CTV cameras have never been felt more than this.
