PANJIM: Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado on Tuesday said that the Rio de Janeiro Carnival will have an Indian-themed float titled ‘Namaste’.
“I am happy Brazil is having a float on an Indian theme for Carnival. I congratulate them for this initiative and I look forward to see the Indian government reciprocate,” Furtado said, and added, “Indian music, dress and songs will be portrayed on the float. This is similar to the carnival parade we have here in Goa.”
Ahead of the annual Carnival, slated to be held in February 2018, the Consul General of Brazil in Mumbai, Rosimar Da Silva Suzano, had urged the Corporation of the City of Panaji to hold a one-day Goa-Brazil Friendship Festival during the Carnival period.
In a meeting with Furtado last week, she had also proposed that the cities of Panjim and Curitiba (Brazil) could work together in different fields.
