PANJIM: Acting Chief Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar on Thursday said that government will spend more than Rs 150 crore for developmental works in the state’s mining belt.
Sanvordem, Sanguem and Sattari, will get Rs 20 crore each, besides the backward areas of Canacona and Pernem, and the rest will get Rs 15 crore.
Speaking to reporters, Dhavalikar said some works have already started but majority of the works will begin from November 15 onwards, as the tendering process is on. He said that the works were tendered depending on the list of priorities given by the local MLAs, which was later approved by the chief minister. A comprehensive plan to implement progressive works in these constituencies has been prepared, he added.
The PWD minister said that all kind of developmental works would be undertaken with these funds and additional resources would be mobilized to augment water supply in these constituencies.
“As assured by the government, we will cross Rs 150 crore mark (of development work) in the constituencies where there is a lull due to mining,” he said.
Mining in Goa has currently been halted following a Supreme Court order. Government in the past had said that the contract to implement these works would be given to those people who are without jobs due to suspension of mining operations.
