MARGAO: Since March 25, police in South Goa have booked 2,507 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and collected Rs 5,49,600 by way of fines from violators.
Incidentally, during the same period 63 cases were registered for violating the Collector’s order regarding lockdown in Goa and 29 vehicles were seized, while 85 people were arrested.

Vasco Division of the police earns the distinction of collecting the highest amount of fines and also for booking the maximum number of cases under the Motor Vehicle Act even though only three of the five police stations in the division were involved in this exercise.
While Vasco Police Station registered 538 motor vehicle cases, Verna police station collected the highest amount in fines amounting to Rs 1.50 lakh, followed closely by Vasco police, Rs 1.41 lakh as fines. Incidentally, Dabolim airport police booked 42 motor vehicle cases and collected Rs 18,400 as fines.
Vasco Railway police station did not register any case for violation of the Collector’s order nor did they arrest anybody or seize any vehicle. This police station understandably did not register any case under the Motor Vehicle Act nor collected any amount as fine.
Maina-Curtorim Police Station having registered 12 cases for violating the Collector’s order had the highest number of such cases from the 17 police stations in the district. It also arrested the maximum number of people being 15.
Margao Town Police Station seized the highest number of vehicles being five followed by Maina Curtorim and Fatorda Police station who seized four vehicles each.
The Konkan Railway police station booked 11 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and collected Rs 1,200 as fine from offenders.
