PONDA: Rumbler strips have been installed at the accident-prone area of Khursakade, Usgao after O Heraldo frequently reported on this hazardous zone where a narrow road merges with the four-lane National Highway.

According to local residents, the National Highway Authority inspected the site last week and has now begun the installation of rumbler strips to help reduce the speed of fast-moving vehicles.
Sandeep Parkar expressed his gratitude to the O Heraldo for bringing attention to the issue. He stated, “This area is a death trap for vehicles. Over the past year and a half, four fatalities have been reported at this spot, and six cattle have also died here.”
He, along with other locals, has urged the National Highway authorities to widen the sharp turn connecting the narrow road.
Suraj Garad noted that confusion often prevails at the site due to the blind curve and emphasised the need to widen the sharp turn to improve visibility.
On December 4, two brothers sustained leg fractures in a collision between two vehicles on the narrow road at Khursakade, Usgao. The impact was severe, resulting in both brothers being transferred to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim. Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the accident.
Locals have attributed the accidents to the narrow road at Khursakade Usgao and have welcomed the installation of rumbler strips for the safety of commuters by the National Highway authorities. Locals have now demanded for the widening of the road at the sharp turn to enhance safety.
