MARGAO: Stray dog and garbage menace dominated the gram sabha of Rumdamol village on Sunday.
At the meeting held this morning, agitated gram sabha members demanded a solution to the stray dog menace, with the dog population on the rise in recent times. Members pointed out that a number of villagers have become victims of dog bites and demanded action.
Sarpanch Saimulla Fanibandh explained the agitated members that the Panchayat was in touch with an NGO in order to engage the agency, but said the panchayat backed out since it involves payment of money for the NGO.
After much discussion, it was finally resolved to write to the department of Animal Husbandry to draw its attention to the stray dog menace in the village and the solution, if any, from the government side.
On the garbage front, the Sarpanch said the panchayat has resolved to purchase a vehicle for waste collection since the existing arrangements falls short of the requirements.
The panchayat has also resolved to utilise the golden jubilee funds on the construction of a children’s park in the village. The issues of housing, garbage collection and electricity also figured in the discussions.
