MARGAO: The South Goa Police organised meetings at various police stations across the district, engaging with members of peace committees, to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming Eid festival.
These peace committees were established by the South Goa Police to monitor any potential communal tensions and provide a platform for amicable resolution of issues as they arise. On Saturday, a meeting was held in the office of the SDPO, Margao, with officers from police stations across Salcete and at a similar meeting in Canacona, SDPO Sandesh Chodanker and PI Chandrakhant Gawas spoke with committee members, obtaining details about the Eid-related events.
Given the communal clashes that occurred earlier this year in some places, the police are proactively taking measures to prevent tension, despite Eid being celebrated at the end of the month.
One of the key topics discussed during the meetings was the sharing of information about the areas where the festival will be celebrated, the timing of events, and the designated routes for religious processions.
Organisers were advised to adhere to the information provided to the police and cooperate with the district administration. This collaborative effort will assist the police in identifying and addressing any potential threats to communal harmony, said a police officer.
