MARGAO: The Salcete taluka authorities on Saturday cracked a whip against traders using plastic bags below 20 microns.
Three separate teams comprising of Salcete Mamlatdar Triveni Velip and Joint Mamlatdars John Fernandes and Madhu Narvekar conducted surprise raids at the Gandhi market, New Market and SGPDA market and confiscated plastic bags from traders.
Over 50 traders were fined by the authorities during the drive with fines ranging from Rs 100-500.
Joint Mamlatdar John Fernandes informed that the raiding teams have confiscated sizeable quantity of plastic bags from the trades and retailers in the three markets.
