MARGAO: Sanguem MLA Subhash Faldessai on Saturday said that neither his nephew nor any
member of his family was in any way connected or involved with the March 2 meeting called by the Goa
RTI Forum at Margao to discuss the Shah Commission report.
“I fail to understand why this Goa RTI Forum is targeting me and tarnishing my image. None of my
family members were involved in the incident,” the Sanguem MLA said, while referring to the demand
raised by Goa RTI Forum to arrest his nephew in connection with the incident.
Saying that his name is being unnecessarily dragged in the incident on grounds that his nephew was
involved in the incident, Faldessai dared his detractors to prove the charges.
“I am ready to resign from the Legislative Assembly if it is proved that my nephew or even a distant
relative of mine was involved in the March 2 incident”, the MLA said, while expressing surprise that
repeated attempts are being made to drag him in the controversy.
He said that Goa RTI Forum Secretary Srikhant Bharve was inside the CD Blue chip building and was
not aware of what happened on the road on March 2 evening.
The Margao police has registered a case of unlawful assembly and confinement of RTI activists against
100 persons connected to mining activity following a complaint lodged by Bharve. While Bharve had
thanked the Margao police for registering the case, he had demanded to know whether the police had
initiated action against the nephew of the Sanguem MLA.
