PANJIM: Members of SaoMatias Village Panchayat have demanded that the transfer of Panchayat Secretary Sameer Parab be revoked and he be posted as full time secretary of the Panchayat.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Sao-Matias Sarpanch Supriya Tari said, “The present panchayat secretary came to the panchayat just a year and a half back. Now he knows the functioning of the panchayat, its requirements and issues faced by it. But he has been transferred to another village panchayat and given additional charge of our panchayat. We want the transfer order to be revoked as in the absence of full-time panchayat secretary, work gets affected.”
“We had gone to the Chief Minister requesting him to cancel the transfer of the Secretary. He assured us that the transfer will be cancelled. But the transfer order has not been cancelled yet,” the Sarpanch said.
Deputy Sarpanch Swapnil Bhomkar said, “The present panchayat secretary is good at drafting and very cooperative with the local people. When he joined, there was a backlog of five years but he cleared all the work during his tenure. We have tried at our level starting from the TiswadiBlock Development Officer (BDO) to Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) to revoke his transfer but our efforts have yielded no results. Normally panchayat secretaries after transferred after four or five years but in this case the transfer order has been effected so soon.”
Agnelo Menezes, a villager said, “This is the first time that we have a full-time panchayat secretary. Earlier, there were no full time secretaries. The formersecretary was promoted and transferred to Panjim with additional charge of our panchayat. But work of our panchayat was getting neglected because of that,” he said, urging the government to post a full-time panchayat secretary by retaining Sameer Parab.
