Mapusa police on Wednesday booked an offence against members of Shiv Sena, Bardez, Vibghag Pramukh Philip D’Souza, Prashant Shet and eight others on charges of forming an unlawful assembly in Mapusa market on Tuesday.
Taking suo-motto cognizance of the reports that appeared in newspapers regarding eviction of non-Goan vendors and hawkers from Mapusa market by Shiv Sena activists, Mapusa police registered the complaint against D’Souza, Shet and eight others for forming an unlawful assembly in Mapusa market, resorting to violence and for throwing away the goods of hawkers and vendors, thereby causing loss to them.
The offence has been registered under Sections 143,147 and 427 read with 149 of IPC for unlawful assembly in the market without permission from concerned government authorities and rioting.
