MARGAO: Following the report published by O Heraldo on water woes in Utorda, more residents, including senior citizens, came forward on Wednesday, complaining about their struggles for the last several months due to irregular water supply.
Senior citizen Maria Martins explained the pathetic condition which she and her husband (senior citizen) are going through due to lack of proper water supply.
Maria, who can’t walk without a walker and her husband who is too physically weak have not washed their clothes for the last few days, besides, they are forced to wake up at 3 am just to see if there is any water supply.
“We both are senior citizens and are facing a tough time due to irregular water supply. It takes nearly one hour to fill one bucket and that too at 3 am. We cannot even have a proper sleep due to the water problem,” she complained.
She further said that the few are enjoying 24X7 water supplies which are being supplied to them with a parallel pipeline laid down over here.
Savio Pereira, another citizen too, expressed his frustration due to no proper water supply and alleged that the officials of PWD are giving excuses instead of resolving the issue.
“We have no proper water supply; many of us are forced to pump water from the wells. I have installed two water tanks but both go dry due to slow water pressure,” he said.
He also said that almost the whole village is facing a difficult time due to irregular water supply.
Echoing similar sentiments, Angela Cardozo, another senior lady, informed that there is no well in her locality, resulting in more struggles in getting the water.
“We are struggling to get the water even for daily use. Many of us have to wait until midnight to collect some buckets of water,” she said.
She also informed that once few officials of the PWD had visited the area, but failed to resolve the issue till date.
A day before local panch member Sharlet Fernandes had raised the above issue and had claimed that the concerned authorities failed to address the issue despite submitting a memorandum.
