PANJIM: After sitting unemployed for five years, the workers of the Surla Beneficiation Plant of Sesa Resources Ltd have decided to go on indefinite agitation until their demand is met.
In 2015 Sesa Resources Ltd had removed 80 workmen from their services after a comprehensive settlement between the workers and management.
This settlement had done with a tacit agreement of reemployment, by clearly mentioning that when the company will resume in the future, the same workers will be given preference first.
Although, Sesa Resources Ltd has been planning to restart the closed Surla Beneficiation Plant again, unfortunately by keeping aside old workmen, the management has undertaken new contract workmen.
Regarding this issue, the All India Trade Union Congress
(AITUC) Goa union leader had written to the management to adhere to the term of the settlement to re-employ all retrenched workmen.
In a past meeting, management had given many reasons. Management is adamant that the company will not employ the workers and categorically declined to employ the workers in the plant and told the delegation of workers that they are unable to give preference in employment to the retrenched workers.
The workers are saying that this attitude of management is clearly in violation of the settlement arrived between the management and the workmen on Thursday.
