PONDA: Ponda sub-district hospital is not only facing problems of shortage of doctors, but is also grappling with problems like overflowing of sewerage tanks, toilets without doors, frequent power failures etc.
The sewerage tank, which is overflowing from the two-wheeler parking area to the main entrance, is causing hardship to patients and those visiting them. Besides, the stench too is unbearable.
Children, pregnant women and other patients coming to the hospital could be at risk due to this unhygienic situation.
According to RTI activist Viraj Sapre the tank has been overflowing for the past two or three days and nothing has been done yet.
Besides, the doors of toilets are broken, causing undue hardships to patients.
Another frequent complaint of those visiting the sub-district hospital is that there are frequent power cuts that cause inconvenience to patients and those visiting them.
When this correspondent tried to contact the hospital in-charge, the staff on duty said the Medical Superintendent was on leave.
When he tried to contact another doctor who was given charge, he too could not be contacted as he was informed that the doctor was busy in the operation theatre.
However, hospital staff agreed that they too had received several complaints due to the overflowing of sewerage tank and have requested higher authorities to look into the matter urgently.
