MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has decided to ditch the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) for the redevelopment of the wholesale fish market and instead will now develop it under the Fisheries Department.
The SGPDA has also allowed the opening of the market at 4 am instead of the earlier 6 am and has stopped the evening operations.

SGPDA Chairman Wilfred D’Sa while speaking after the authority meeting informed that the earlier plan of the market redevelopment through GSIDC which was worth Rs 18 crore has been now cancelled. The SGPDA today decided to get the help of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana through the Fisheries Department.
“The scheme provides for upto Rs 50 crore funding, 60 per cent borne by the Centre and 40 per cent by the State. We will hand the land to the Fisheries Department for development after the due process is completed,” D’Sa said.
He informed that the ice plant and other necessary infrastructure for the market were missing in the earlier plan and it will now be a part of the new proposal.
The Chairperson also said that the opening of the market has been shifted back to 4 am from the earlier 6 am and added that the evening opening of the market has been stopped.
The Authority unanimously rejected any plan or attempt to allow retail fish sale at the wholesale fish market.
