MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) is contemplating on filing a police complaint against the unauthorised and unregistered organisations/associations operating in its wholesale fish market.
The SGPDA chairman Wilfred D’Sa informed that these unauthorised associations/organisations continue to operate in the fish market despite warning.
He further informed that they have sought a legal opinion in the matter and warned that the authority would not shy away from filing a complaint in this matter.
At a meeting held a couple of weeks ago, D’Sa had revealed that there are no associations or organisations registered with the SGPDA for conducting any activity at its wholesale fish market.
Based on some receipts paid by the Goan fishermen, the authority realised that fake organisations are operating in the market.
“Not one organisation, which is operating in the market, is registered with the SGPDA. However, 70 trucks arrive in the market daily and Rs 500 is charged as parking fee. And due to this “secret” collection, the SGPDA is losing a lot of revenue,” the chairman added.
“We have sought for a legal opinion and will definitely file a complaint regarding such fake associations,” D’Sa warned.
To enable Goans’ control over the wholesale fish market, the Chairman Wilfred D’Sa had suggested the forming of an association of Goan Fish Wholesalers and Fishermen. “The association has still not been formed,” he added.
