MARGAO: In a major decision, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Saturday has decided not to effect any changes in the city’s development zones.
This was decided at the PDA meeting held on Saturday chaired by MLA Rajan Naik and attended by all the members.
The PDA decision assumes significance given that the planning and development authority had received as many as 17 applications for change in the city zones. “members were of the unanimous view that the Outline Development Plan (ODP) for the city of Margao should be left untouched for the moment. Only genuine mistakes and minor road alignments will be rectified by the PDA”, said PDA chief Rajan Naik.
He said that members felt no need to change the zones in the ODP when the plan was already finalised two years and half ago. Sources in the know said the change in the zones would have opened a pandora’s box and the PDA would have been flooded with similar requests for change in zones if the 17 applications were granted by the Authority.
Members were of the view that since the finalised ODP will remain in force till 2016, there was no need to effect any changes midway, given that the process of inviting suggestions and objections to the next ODP will begin from a year from now.
