PANJIM: Members of Shack Owners Welfare Society (SOWS) on Thursday met the Director of Tourism and complained against the lottery system introduced for allotment of shacks.
Speaking to reporters, SOWS president Cruz Cardozo said, “The department of tourism has released an application form which says that there will be a lottery. Lottery for whom? It has been done to benefit those from Delhi. There is a lobby of businessmen from Delhi who want to kill interests of traditional fishermen.”

“The beach shacks should be allotted to those who have been in the business for generations. There is an attempt being made to divide the members of Shack Owners Welfare Society. If anything goes wrong, it is the Shack Owners Welfare Society which is targeted. The Goa State Beach Shack Policy is very good but an attempt is being made to misguide people,” he charged.
Cardozo alleged that two persons of the department of tourism were involved in the preparation of the application form. Cardozo said the shack owners have been given seven days to submit the application forms and Friday, October 27, is the last day to submit it.
Cardozo said he has requested the director of tourism to extend the last date for submission of the forms by a day to which the director agreed, he claimed.
