PONDA: Marriages are made in heaven and celebrated on earth. However, a celebration at Ponda turned sour, as a bride after registering her marriage, allegedly eloped with her lover from a wedding hall full of guests and invitees, moments before the muhurat, leaving the groom and the one thousand-odd guests shell-shocked.

It is learnt that the bride is from Sanguem taluka, while the groom hails
from Tiswadi.
According to available information, the bride dressed in traditional attire, adorned with gold ornaments, arrived in a car. However, as soon as she got down, she rushed towards another car arranged by her lover, and sat in it, and fled with him within a few seconds, leaving her parents, relatives and friends in disbelief. The guests present couldn’t believe what was happening. Soon the parents and guests realised that the girl had eloped with her lover at the last moment. It reminded them of similar runaway bride scenes depicted in films. The groom, who was eagerly waiting for his bride, was astonished on realising that she eloped with her lover. Despite frantic search, the bride and her lover could not be traced and the groom and his family returned home disappointed.
This is the second such incident reported in the last few days. An odd case of cheating in love was reported at the Ponda Police Station, where a man was accused of raping his girlfriend – now legally his wife – under the pretext of marriage before refusing to tie the knot at the venue, even after completing the marriage registration formalities.
