Shiroda minor ends life after reprimand for not attending school

A 12-year-old minor boy died by suicide at his residence in Shiroda-Ponda, on Friday, February 7, 2026, following a scolding from his father for not going to school.

Ponda police said they received a phone call at around 11.52 am from the boy’s father, informing them that his minor son had died by hanging at their house in Shiroda.

Police immediately visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. During the spot inspection, it was found that the minor boy, a resident of Shiroda-Ponda, and a native of Uttar Pradesh, had hanged himself inside the house.

Further inquiry revealed that the boy was unwilling to go to school, following which his father had scolded him earlier in the morning. Police said no other immediate circumstances were reported at the scene.

The body was subsequently preserved at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, to carry out further medico-legal formalities.

Further inquiry into the incident is being conducted by PSI Krishna Gawas of Ponda Police Station.
