Tragedy marred Haryana’s Surajkund Mela Saturday evening when a giant Tsunami swing snapped mid-air, killing on-duty Inspector Jagdish Prasad and injuring 13 others.
The Fatal Crash
Around 6:15 pm in Faridabad, the ride, with about 15 passengers, tilted violently and crashed to the ground. Palwal Police’s Inspector Prasad, set to retire in March, rushed to help. He bravely shielded riders but suffered fatal head and face injuries. Doctors declared him dead on arrival at hospital.
Swift Response and Probe
The entire mela ground was evacuated immediately. District Magistrate Ayush Sinha led rescues, ensuring the injured reached medical care. Ride operators shut down the area pending investigation.
CM’s Condolences
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini expressed grief on X: “Deeply saddened by the Surajkund accident. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Directions issued for injured’s treatment.”
The fair proceeds without joyrides as authorities probe maintenance lapses.
