PANJIM: Continuing its probe into the mining scam that saw the arrest of mineral trader Kancha Gaunder on Friday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with officials of the Department of Mines and Geology visited the Paikul-Valpoi mining site and Sancordem dump site.
During the joint inspection, the teams noticed that dump handling was allegedly carried out in lakhs of metric tonnes. A department official said that the inspection to verify the extraction was, however, adjourned due to rains.
The source revealed that after two site inspections, SIT independently located one dump site at Sancordem and found that the iron ore dump allegedly belongs to Talaulikar Mines from where lakhs of metric tonnes of iron ore were exported by different traders with the help of highly influential politicians. Gaunder was among those traders involved in the alleged illegal transportation.
SIT will conduct further investigations with respect to this dump site.
