The Konkan Railway Corporation has finally invited Global Expression Of Interest for its innovative and prestigious sky bus technology.
The indigenously developed sky bus technology has been hanging in balance ever since the tragic accident at the testing track at Margao railway station around a decade ago.
The Request for Qualification (RFQ) has been invited for the further development and fine tuning of the technology and its commercial deployment on revenue sharing or similar models. The last date to submit the RFQ is December 10.
KRC Chief Public Relations Manager, Siddheshwar Telugu said the sky bus technology, which has been developed by Konkan Railway, is an innovative, environment friendly and cost effective alternative rail-based transportation system. “Sky bus offers better speed, greater route flexibility and comfortable urban travel. Its construction is economic and faster and requires only minimal land and at the same time, creates additional space”, he said, adding that the Konkan Railway has demonstrated feasibility of the technology and has created real life speed of 70 kmph on the sky bus track at Goa.
He said Konkan Railway has also been granted various patents in India and abroad for this innovative technology and its sub-systems/ components. Unique features of sky bus technology promise tremendous business potential as an alternate urban transportation system for medium and large cities, he added.
“It is a well known fact that construction of Konkan Railway itself was triumph of technology over the difficult terrain. Since then, Konkan Railway Corporation has contributed a number of innovations in the field of rail transportation, e.g. anti collision device, sky bus metro , ro-ro services, etc. to name a few”, he said.
