PANJIM: Raising concerns over the growing number of deaths and injuries caused due to the unending Smart City works, the Goa Green Brigade will hold “Walk The Talk on Smart City’s Art of Building Killer Roads, How Citizens Must Act,” on Friday, December 6, in Panjim,

According to Goa Green Brigade, with deep insights into the functioning of the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the civic issues, the programme will brief the participants on the fault-lines in the functioning of the so called Smart City which has turned out to be a major disaster for the capital city residents who have to endure traffic jams, rising air pollution, inferior quality civic works including road and footpath construction and pay a heavy price with their lives, injuries and growing health issues.
The walk will begin from the Campal Promenade, opposite Marquinez Palace, Panjim, and cover a distance of around 3 to 4 km along the Mandovi riverside.
There will be a group discussion on how citizens can stop the capital city’s killer road death traps from injuring and killing more people. Even the Smart City works of footpaths have become unsafe and dangerous, which have left many pedestrians injured. Besides, dumping of debris and mud from dug-up roads and footpaths have resulted in the dust pollution.
A memorandum will be submitted to the officials of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited, the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the Goa State Pollution Control Board after receiving inputs from the participants which will include definitive ground action to stop the reckless digging and removal of all debris and mud on a war footing. An active citizen’s monitoring group will be formed for follow-up action.
To protect the rights and interests of the city residents and also of those who regularly enter the city for various works, the Goa Green Brigade will explore the legal course of action if the government agencies fail to act.
