Sopo tax: Ponda market bandh today

PONDA: Agitating vendors have decided to go ahead with the Ponda Market Bandh on Wednesday, after a meeting between them and government failed to find an amicable solution to the controversial Sopo tax, which had been hiked by the Ponda Municipal Council.

PONDA: Agitating vendors have decided to go ahead with the Ponda Market Bandh on Wednesday, after a meeting between them and government failed to find an amicable solution to the controversial Sopo tax, which had been hiked by the Ponda Municipal Council.
According to reports, talks with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar remained inconclusive, prompting the vendors to continue with their agitation. The vendors are demanding to rollback the controversial Sopo tax from Rs 20 to Rs 5.
It is learnt that the chief minister on Monday had a meeting with PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik and other council members in the presence of Deputy CM.
