Says Ambaji side has not been made an entry point as it would create traffic bottlenecks due to security checks

MARGAO: Nearly six months after the inauguration of the new District Collectorate, South, there’s no end to the traffic nightmares facing visitors to the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex.
District Collector N D Agrawal’s decision to stick to the existing entry and exit points of the buildings has not helped to streamline the traffic inflow into the complex. Questions are being raised why traffic is allowed into the complex from the southern side when the Ambaji point, which is now an exit point, would have served the situation better.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar during his last visit to the Collectorate building had favoured the Ambaji point as the entry point and the building’s southern side the exit.
Colva Sarpanch Snowkon Gonsalves said the Chief Minister had given clear-cut directions to the District Collector to go in for the northern Ambaji side as the entry point, but in vain. He pointed out that visitors have begun parking their vehicles on the road leading to the southern gate to the Collectorate building creating traffic congestion.
When contacted, the District Collector said the Ambaji side has not been made an entry point for the simple reason that it would create traffic bottlenecks due to security check at the point. “Our security check the vehicles entering the complex and since there’s not enough space outside the Southern side gate, vehicles will only spill over to the road creating congestion,” he said. Besides, he said the CFC is located along the southern side of the building, adding that entrance on the southern side helps visitors to approach the CFC without any hassles.
