MARGAO: The South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA) submitted a petition to Krishna Salkar, Chairman of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), at his office on Thursday. The petition requested the allocation of vehicle parking space opposite the South Goa District Court building near the Old Market Circle in Margao. This request aimed to address the parking and traffic congestion issues faced by advocates and litigants.
Salkar assured the SGAA that the SGPDA Board would consider their demands. Advocate Prasad Naik, President of the SGAA, highlighted that their association consisted of more than 650 lawyers from various talukas in South Goa.

“The Civil and Criminal Court, District and Sessions Court, and the Consumer Forum are all situated near the Old Market Circle in Margao. With a total of 16 fully functional courtrooms, these courts operate from 10 am to
1 pm and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm,” explained Naik.
Due to insufficient parking facilities, advocates and litigants often resort to parking on the main road adjacent to the District Court building, causing inconvenience to the public and traffic disruptions, he further stated.
Naik suggested that the vacant land acquired by the SGPDA opposite the district court building could be designated as vehicle parking space for advocates and litigants. Such an arrangement would alleviate the daily traffic congestion experienced at the Old Market traffic signal in Margao.
“The present petition is made in the interest of the larger public, ensuring that no inconvenience is caused due to the unavailability of parking space,” Naik emphasized.
