South Goa Coastal Monitoring Committee Forwards 23 CRZ Cases to GCZMA for Action

The 29th meet ing of the South Goa District Level Coastal Monitoring Committee (SGDLCMC) was held under the chairman ship of Srinet Kothwale, Ad ditional Collector-I (South), to review and decide on coastal regulation matters from various talukas. The meeting was attend ed by Deputy Collectors and SDOs of Canacona and Salcete, the Mamlatdar of Salcete, and officials repre senting the Town and Coun try Planning Department (TCP), Forest Department, Public Works Department (PWD), and ISLR, along with a representative from the fishermen community. During the meeting, the Committee took up 23 cases pertaining to coastal areas of South Goa for delibera tion. After thorough discus sion and examination of relevant documents, it was unanimously resolved to forward all 23 cases to the Goa Coastal Zone Manage ment Authority (GCZMA), Panaji, with clear and spe cific recommendations. All 23 cases were accordingly disposed of. The Committee empha sized the importance of timely disposal of cases concerning the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) to ensure effective monitoring and management of coastal resources. The decisions taken reflect the Commit tee’s commitment to up hold coastal laws while bal ancing the interests of local communities and environ mental protection. It was also decided that all pending cases from South Goa talukas, which had earlier been forward ed to the respective Taluka Level Committees, should be inspected on priority. The inspection reports are to be submitted to the District Level Committee (DLC) for further consid eration. These reports will subsequently be placed before the next SGDLCMC meeting for appropriate action. Officials present stressed the need for inter-depart mental coordination to maintain the ecological in tegrity of Goa’s coastline and to address violations in a timely and transparent manner. The participation of representatives from multiple departments, in cluding those from the fish ermen community, ensured that diverse perspectives were taken into account during the deliberations. The meeting concluded with a resolve to strength en the monitoring mecha nisms at the district level and ensure that decisions are implemented in accord ance with the guidelines laid down by the GCZMA.
