MARGAO: The South Goa Zilla Panchayat (SGZP), in its meeting on Friday, criticised the Rural Development Agency (RDA) for its “step-motherly treatment” to the former on various issues.
SGZP president is the chairman of the RDA, but has not been called for any activities of the RDA, including its meetings. The RDA calls the ZP president only to sign papers of audits and other things. After a lot of heated discussions, the ZP president has decided not to sign anymore documents of the RDA.
The SGZP, after a long gap, held a meeting in its old office in Arlem, Fatorda at 10 am, although it was delayed as the members came as late as 11 am.
Officer Laura Britto, who holds additional charge of the ZP, was present in place of Krishna Signapurkar, who is the ZP Chief Executive Officer, as the latter is on leave.
ZP member Nelly Rodrigues, right from the beginning, protested the step-motherly treatment allegedly being given by the RDA to the ZP, and objected to the way the ZP is being kept away from all functions and meetings of the RDA.
“I am used by the RDA to get signatures on audits and other documents; but from now on, I have decided not to sign any document of the RDA,” said ZP President Navnath Naik.
The delay by the State Government in providing funds to the ZP was also discussed at the meeting.
