CALANGUTE: With the coastal belt being packed with tourists for the long Independence Day weekend, the Calangute Traffic Cell conducted a special drive against drunk driving over the weekend.
Superintendent of Police (SP) (Traffic) Akshat Kaushal said the Bardez coastal belt being a tourist hub, people driving should be very cautious.

“We want people to drive safely. Our only concern is that they should not drive when drunk. We want them to be responsible. There are two-wheelers on the road, families, people walking on the road in the coastal belt because it’s a tourist area,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons, SP Kaushal said, “It’s an ongoing drive. The drive was going on before also, but we’re making more efforts now. We’re trying various ways to make the roads safer. This drive will continue so that people can drive safely and walk safely also.”
The Calangute Traffic Cell has been provided with six alcometers and also speed radars, he said. Calangute Traffic Cell PI Sachin Narvekar said they’re keeping a special watch near the popular bars. “When customers leave in their cars we check them as per directions,” he said.
