PANJIM: The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) will launch a special month-long drive from July 1 to 31 to enroll new voters and those who could not be earlier enrolled in the voters list.
There are around 15,000 voters in the age group of 18-21 years, who failed to get themselves enrolled during the drive last year.
The decision has been taken following directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI) that observed low enrolment amongst college going students across the country.
In order to reach out to eligible voters, ECI is collaborating with Facebook to launch the first nationwide “Voter Registration Reminder” on 1 July.
Addressing media persons on Friday, CEO Kunal, “This year ECI has decided to utilise the period (for updating the electoral rolls) continuously, for maximization of enrolment of eligible young electors, particularly in 18-19 age group. He added that on July 8 and 22 special drives will be held at educational institutions to enroll young voters.
On July 8 and 22, camps will be held at polling stations where booth level officers will sit to fill forms, camps will be also conducted in government and private educational institutions, vocational training institutions, nursing institutions, etc.
The existing modes of submission of Form 6 are at EROs Office, sending by post or online submission at NVSP and collections by BLOs.
“During the special drive, removal of names of dead electors will also be undertaken. Deletion and corrections in the existing electoral roll will also take place,” Kunal said, adding that the office will be in regular contact with the Registrar of Deaths and the authorities responsible for issuing legal heir certificates or carrying out mutations.
