PANJIM: The State government has withdrawn the entry fee for all commercial vehicles from midnight of June 30.
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said the decision has been taken by the government as promised in the budget speech by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Parrikar, in his speech had said that the entry fees will be reversed once GST comes into force. “As assured to the people of Goa, government has decided to withdraw the entry fees,” Dhavalikar said. “I appeal to the people not to pay any fees at the check post from midnight of June 30,” he added. PWD on May 14, 2013 had issued a notification imposing entry fees on commercial vehicles at all border check posts which was opposed by stakeholders in Goa. There was chaos when PWD started collecting entry fees with police protection at the border check posts. Traders from the neighbouring State’s districts had also revolted against the decision as they had to pay very high fees on every trip.
