MARGAO: The special meeting of the Cuncolim Municipal Council on Tuesday called to discuss the long-delayed chieftain’s memorial project brought out procedural lapses in the execution of the project, besides misplacement of the file relating to the project.
While the civic body has now agreed to immediately release payment to the architect engaged to design the project, with a condition that the drawings of the monument are forthwith handed over to the contractor for execution, the meeting decided to refer to the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes the question of misplaced file for further action.
Midway through the meeting, President of the Cuncolim Chieftain’s Memorial Committee Oscar Martins and member VijaiKumar Desai accused the municipal administration for sabotaging the project.
They warned that Cuncolkars will not sit quite and watch the civic body passing the buck, threatening action if the monument is not ready at the memorial park before July 15.
The duo said the chieftain’s committee will have to do a re-think of accepting the project, while warning that people will not tolerate any further delay in completing the project.
Chief Officer Maya Pednekar later told the media that there were procedural lapses in the execution of the chieftain’s memorial project.
She, however, hastened to add that the Civic body would release the payments, while asserting that she would refer the file to the DMA for approval.
On lodging a FIR against the municipal officials for misplacing the project file, Pednekar said she will submit a report to the DMA for action since a municipal staffer has contended that the project file was submitted to a former chief officer of the civic body.
