PANJIM: Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has, for the first time introduced supplementary exam for SSC students, who fail in one or two subjects, thus doing away with the ATKT system from this academic year. The supplementary is tentatively slated to be held on June 24.
Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Chairman J R Rebello said the new system will allow students to concentrate on subjects they will re-appear for instead of shouldering additional burden of higher secondary studies pending ATKT attempt.
“It has been observed that majority ATKT students taking admissions for Class XI and at the same time, prepare for answering the October or March examinations (under the ATKT rule), still fail. Once promoted, they not only have the burden of the subjects of Class XI, they also have to prepare for the subjects they had failed in SSC. Since they are unable to cope, fail ATKT as well,” Rebello told Herald.
A total of 21,190 candidates of whom 19,562 are regular students were enrolled to answer the SSC exams this academic year.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education had phased out ATKT rule for Classes IX and XI in 2012, replacing it with a supplementary.
