SANTA CRUZ: St Cruz Panchayat’s Gram Sabha on Sunday resolved against the nationalisation of rivers, dumping of Coal and also the inclusion of their area into proposed Planning and Development Authority (PDA).
It was also resolved that all existing permissions issued in close proximity of the Bondvol Lake be revoked.
“Today’s gram sabha meeting was important and we have taken important resolutions against the dumping of coal, the nationalisation of rivers and also the inclusion of the area into proposed PDA,” said Olavio Fernandes, a local resident.
The gram Sabha witnessed massive opposition from the people against their area being taken under the PDA while demanding that their constituency should remain under the current Town and Country Planning (TCP).
“We do not want the inclusion of St Cruz under the PDA and it should remain with the current TCP”, the people demanded at the meeting.
The entire village of St Cruz revolted against the illegal grabbing of the Bondwol Lake and development in the surrounding area which falls in the no development zone as per regional plan.
“We see that half of the panch members have not supported our sarpanch and keeping in view the gram sabha has passed a resolution that all panch members should support the sarpanch so that the issue of the lake is settled. Also it was resolved that all illegal constructions within the 200 meters radius from the lake will be looked upon and additionally no new permission would be granted” he said.
Further it was decided that all the licences which were issued earlier in close proximity of the Bondvol Lake, would be revoked.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha meeting also witnessed a formation of new garbage clearance committee in a bid to chalk out a plan on how the garbage would be collected.
