PANJIM: The State Government on Thursday nominated Sandeep Azrenkar, Milind Gadgil and M K Janardhan as members of the State Level Eco-Sensitive Zone Monitoring Committee for a period of one year in pursuance of the notification dated January 2015 issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate change (MoEF&CC).
The notification issued by MoEF&CC on January 23, 2015 stated that an area of one kilometre around the boundaries of the wildlife sanctuaries/national park/bird sanctuary in the State of Goa, as Eco-Sensitive Zones and also that a committee be formed to monitor all the eco-sensitive area. The committee was to comprise of three members – one from a non-governmental organisation, one from a community based organisation and an expert in ecology from a reputed institution.
Complying with the notification, the State government issued notification nominating Azrenkar, a member of the Nisarga Nature Club, Mapusa (NGO Category), Gadgil, a representative of the community based organisation and Janardhan, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and Environment (Goa University) to the committee for a period of one year.
